The Best Diaper Bag Is Probably a Waist Pack   by Jennifer Q. Daily

Carrying all that gear for a baby can be challenging. For one, it's logistically challenging to remember all the stuff and pack it into one bag and be able to find it.

And it's physically challenging to carry the traditional diaper bag over a shoulder. It's heavy and most women are carrying the baby on one side and the bag on the other. You try to stand straight but it's pretty hard with a wiggly baby and a heavy shoulder bag. And don't forget your own items, like purse, cell phone and keys. Where do you put those?

One really good solution to these challenges is the Waist Pack, also called a Fanny Waist Pack or Lumbar Pack. They come in all sizes, but the larger ones are ideally suited to carrying baby items including diapers and bottles.

What are the advantages of using a waist pack vs. a traditional diaper bag? Well, the most important advantage is the fact that the weight is supported on your hips, not on your shoulders. And the weight is evenly carried by the large muscle groups of the legs and gluteal muscles. This is the way weight is supposed to be carried.

Secondly, your hands will be completely free and so will both sides of your body. You can switch carrying baby from left to right hip so one side doesn't get over used and you can use the other free hand to tend to baby's needs.

And another great feature is that the contents of a waist pack can be easily accessed to grab a wipe or toy or binky whenever you need it quickly. You can either reach around to quickly unzip the top and reach in, or you can slide the waist band and move the pack to the front of your body where it will rest easily for you to grab whatever you need.

The best fanny waist pack to use as a diaper bag is one with several compartments to organize items for easy access, and separate outside compartments for easy access to your phone and keys, etc. And the ones with bottle holders are fantastic because you can hold baby bottles and your own water bottle. Moms need hydration too! An added feature of most lumbar packs is the ability to easily tie on a sweater or blanket, too!

Save your back and carry baby gear in a waist pack. Your shoulders and neck will be thanking you!
